I write about what you---
women, wives and moms---
about your family, faith and future.
I write about what's hard, what helps and what heals.
I show you how it's done. And not done.
I hold your hand as you find what matters to the Savior.
And let go of those things that mattered to you, but not to Him.
I write about what Him.

Laugher—Why Laugh?

Ever listen to children laugh?
They don’t need a good reason to do it.
Ever watch a child? They laugh a lot.
Of course they don’t carry the burdens adults do… maybe that’s their secret.
Those burdens aren’t ours to carry either.
Children live in the moment.
When we absorb the past and future all in the now, it’s too much. We weren’t meant to carry all of that.

In fact, the average 4-year-old laughs 300 times a day.
Know how much the average 40-year-old laughs? Only four.

Infants begin smiling during the first weeks of life and laugh out loud within months of being born.

"You don't stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop laughing."—Michael Pritchard

How does laughter do that?
Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, improving resistance to disease.
Laughter triggers release of endorphins (those feel-good chemicals), while lowering stress hormones, even relieving pain.
Laughter improves blood and oxygen flow, protecting heart attacks and cardiovascular problems. (Poor blood flow causes many diseases and inflammation.)
Laughter burns 40 calories—enough to lose three pounds in a year.
Laughter lightens anxiety and tension.
Laughter relieves stress.
Laughter improves mood.
Laughter strengthens resilience.
Laughter strengthens relationships.
Laughter attracts others to us.
Laughter enhances teamwork and group bonding.
Laughter helps defuse conflict.
Laughter gives courage and strength to find new sources of hope.
Laughter is contagious—just hearing laughter primes the brain to smile and join the fun.
Laughter stops distressing emotions. You can’t feel anxious, angry or sad when you’re laughing.
Laughter helps relax and recharge, reducing stress, increasing energy and improving focus.
Laughter helps you solve problems.
Laughter may help you live longer.

How can you laugh more?
Exercise laughter. Be intentional.
Count your blessings.
Look for humor.
Spend time with those who laugh.
Bring humor into conversations.

Can’t find anything funny?
Simulated laughter can be just as beneficial as the real thing.
A Georgia State University study found simulated laughter incorporated into an exercise program for older adults, helped their mental health as well as their aerobic endurance.
Hearing others laugh, even without a reason, can often trigger genuine laughter.
Choose to laugh.
Attempt to laugh at situations rather than bemoan them.
Surround yourself with reminders to lighten up.
Remember funny things.
Don’t dwell on the negative—news, sad stories.
Be with children.
Draw upon a favorite memory that always makes you smile.
Think of laughter like exercise—good for every day. Set aside 10-15 minutes to do something that amuses you.
Practice laughter. It changes how we think.
And it’s free!

TO help you get started…
A first grade teacher collected well-known proverbs.
She gave each kid in the class the first half of the proverb, and asked them to fill in the rest.
Here’s what the kids came up with:
Better to be safe than…punch a 5th grader.
Strike while the…bug is close.
It’s always darkest before…daylight savings time.
Never underestimate the power of…termites.
You can lead a horse to water but…how?
Don’t bite the hand that…looks dirty.
No news is…impossible.
You can’t teach an old dog…math.
If you lie down with dogs, you…will stink in the morning.
Love all, trust…me.
The pen is mightier than…the pigs.
An idle mind is… the best way to relax.
Where there is smoke, there’s…pollution.
Happy is the bride who…gets all the presents.
A penny saved is…not much.
Two is company, three’s…The Musketeers.
None are so blind as…Helen Keller.
Children should be seen and not…spanked or grounded.
If at first you don’t succeed…get new batteries.
You get out of something what you…see pictured on the box.
When the blind lead the blind…get out of the way.
Laugh and the whole world laughs with you. Cry and… you have to blow your nose.

Want to double your laughs? Share the above with a friend. And laugh with them.

It seems the Bible was right AGAIN.
For it says, A merry heart does good, like medicine. Proverbs 17:22.
Proverbs 31:25 Laugh at the days to come.
(Think how that would change the news.)
Nehemiah 8:10 The joy of the Lord is our strength.
(That is our comfort.)
Proverbs 15:13 A glad heart makes a happy face....
(What you think, will show. Thankfulness is evident.)
John 15:11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow.
1 Peter 4:13 Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have a wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.
When we choose to laugh, we choose the joy of the Lord.
That effects our spirit, soul and body.
Joy is a fruit of the Spirit, evidence of God’s presence within us.
Just like listening to a child’s laughter, God wants to hear you laugh.

Very good reminder, for all of us. Thanks for sharing. I shared the proverbs, they were really good. Have a nice weekend.
